Youth
Ministries at First Baptist Church
At First Baptist Church we believe that children and young
people are vital to our faith community. There are many
opportunities for youth and children to participate in
our worship and fellowship life, including participation
in worship as readers, members of the choirs and as ushers
and greeters.
The
Youth Group
Youth
Group for grades seven through twelve meets weekly
on Sunday afternoons from 12:30 to 3:00 PM. The group
will sometimes play games, have guest speakers, take
local day trips, participate in fund raising for world
hunger, local youth community projects and other needs.
The Youth Group also goes on retreats and mission trips,
biking, hiking trips, camping and canoe trips. Sometimes
they just hang out together getting to know each other
better. The annual Christmas Tree Sales, a Worcester
institution for over 20 years, is their main fund raising
event. Proceeds are used within the church and the
community to benefit our young people.
Junior
Youth Group
The
Junior Youth Group is for younger youth in grades four,
five and six. This group meets once a month on Sunday
afternoons. This group has a stronger emphasis on social
fellowship activities. They have gone on day trips to Boston
and other local attractions, played fun and silly games,
gone bowling, and challenged the corn maze. A goal of this
program is to prepare the younger youth for participation
in the upper youth group.
The members of the Junior Youth Group periodically meet
with the older youth and assist them with fund raisers
and outreach projects.
The Children's Fellowship
Children's
Fellowship is a group for children in grades one, two
and three. This group meets once per month, and is
really focused on getting the children of the church
together to play and have fun. Activities for the Children's
Fellowship have included: a Halloween Party, sledding,
trips to children's theater performances, parks and
museums.
In addition, a Children's Message conversation time is
a regular feature of morning worship. Following this time,
the children leave the formal service for Children's Worship
during which they have the opportunity to learn about their
faith in fun and age appropriate ways.
